IMHO "quotedblbase" is a bit more difficult to remember, so I prefer the
French word "guillemet":

command UTF-8 char Unicode EC char code
@lguillemet       «    00AB    '023
@rguillemet       »    00BB    '024

There are German quotes too -- "g" stands for German, and I prefer the
short names:

@lgq or @lgquote ‚     201A    '015
@rgq or @rgquote ‘     2018    '140
@lgqq
  or @lgdblquote „     201E    '022
@rgqq
  or @rgdblquote “     201C    '020

I just thought it would make adding support for French and German quotes
easier, but as long as EC can be used only for some particular glyphs,
I'm happy enough :-) AFAIK, using EC fonts and T1 font encoding would
allow hyphenation of words with accented characters, but it is just
luxury now.

Thanks for your attention,
John
