    Ok, but then it seems to me that omitting the argument and have it
    automatically set is even better.

I agree (though it would have been nice to hear from James if he'd
really want to use it).

    Maybe there could be a command along

I don't think we need the "set" in the name, just
@xrefautomaticsectiontitle
?

If that suits you, I'll add it to texinfo.tex and the doc.
