Thanks, this works.  At the moment I have

        @titlefont{AWK As A Major Systems Programming @*}
        @title Language---Revisited

which errs the other way, not quite enough space between the two lines.

Karl - can we get

        @title AWK As A Major Systems Programming
        @titlex Language---Revisited
