Hi Andrew,
export INFOPATH=$INFOPATH:"/home/andrew/info"
INFOPATH is still supported and still works AFAIK. But there has to be
a dir file in the directory (ie, /home/andrew/info/dir in this case) for
info to do anything with it.
The easiest thing to do is copy an existing dir file, or, if you don't
have one, there is a dir-example file in the Texinfo source
distribution. (It doesn't matter if there are extra entries in the dir
file that don't have info files anywhere.)
It would be nice if Info would automatically recognize the *.info* files
available in a given directory. I'm not sure how feasible, or
necessary, that really is, though.
Best,
Karl
