Yes, is that a static library? That's no good for testing whether we
can load a dynamic library.

I don't see why it's a problem. Don't look at the directory where it's
installed and you won't have to worry about it. Installing it in some
other directory wouldn't help either.

In terms of source directories, it's in the same directory as the
other module that is used at run-time in order to share code, like the
libtool import, to avoid bloating the distribution, and to reduce
inconsistencies between the two modules that could lead to a false
result for whether loading an XS module works or not.
