We won't remove it for that reason.  For two reasons, first because if
it is useful, we do not really care much what the standard says if
browsers implements a feature we like for Texinfo HTML.  And second,
because it can be replaced by CSS.

My question is really on the need for formatting.

If we keep it, we will probably turn to CSS for the implementation.
