Even if your patches do not make it to the Texinfo release, they still
are a valuable contribution, as other users who want conformance can
retrieve this exchange and apply your patches, especially since your
patches are clean and small. They could also be applied in
distributions (such as Fedora, Debien...) if the packages maintainers
find that conformance is needed in their distributions.

We also have a contrib directory in the Texinfo sources where we could
put your patches and document somewhere that they improve conformance of
generated epub.

That's clearly something to consider that we were not aware of.

As Gavin said, even if we favor conformance, we need to weight
against other effects on the project as a whole, in particular it should
fit as best as possible with the overall design of the Texinfo language
and the conversions codes, and the impact on other formats must also be
considered.

There is also the issue of the timing, we are very near a release, so we
should avoid changes that require some testing and having ourselves or
users looking at the generated HTML for diverse constructs and on
diverse browsers.
