just a javap issue. according to the java vm spec (section 4.1):
"An interface is implicitly abstract (2.13.1); its ACC_ABSTRACT flag
must be set."
If 1.1 compilers were generating interfaces without setting ACC_ABSTRACT,
they were in error.
