I'm glad this conversation got started, and seems (hopefully) to be leading
somewhere.

>From my (extremely outsider, non-(s)cons-experienced) perspective, the
"fixing" and "stabilizing" of the latest cons version is a "must do" thing.
It seems there are enough people in here to know how to do that.

Also, you could (should) make a clear statement on the Cons web page as to
the relationship of Cons to Scons. As it seems from this discussion, that is
probably not so clear, yet. :)

For me (and many others coming from 'must I use make?!?' background) the
Perl vs. Python vs. something-else approach is not that important. I don't
know either language yet anyways, it's not decisive for me. Actually, I'd
like to have a 'LuaCons' if possible... ( www.lua.org )

Point being, why not make a system that can have multiple personalities,
e.g. scripted by different front-ends depending on the person's preference.
This would combine the efforts and allow also still-other (like Lua)
front-ends. Perhaps this was already discussed but I missed it.

Anyways, whoever does what, I wish all the best luck for it! I'm currently
still living with 'make' but will be happy to test-run others once the
"smoke clears off". :)
