Not necessarily. If the FSFC is not a registered charity, there is
no need for separate entities. If the FSFC is a registered charity,
its political activities will be restricted, and, if the free
software types associated with it wish to engage in prohibited
polictical activities, they will need to set up a separate
association.
Well, that's what I mean. I think it's a good idea to set up a
charitable foundation, which would further the cause (fund?) Free
Software, while at the same time a political entity for furthering
the cause of Free Software would also be a good thing.
I am assuming that the advantage of being a registered charity would
be an increase in donations, since the tax write-off is a further
incentive, right? Are there other implications of being a charitable
foundation?
