I found it interesting that only IBM managed a pass, others such as Microsoft and Sun are clearly trying to comply, while the likes of MySpace, eBay and Amazon apparently could not care less. Apparently it is not quite as bad as it first appears.
Offline use means you can dowload the content before you leave the house, then read it on the train. Take back control of your business processes with IBM WebSphere. WPF is more powerful than Flash; but does the Times Reader need the more advanced graphical features? One, install outside Program Files; I haven't tried this but it might well do the trick.

I travel with a small-ish Tablet at the moment; I'm also interested in the UMPC. I don't think the future of eBooks lies in dedicated devices. Despite its ubiquity, PDF is fairly unpleasant for online reading; the best way to read a PDF is to print it out.
Potentially this could be a broader base than Amazon. There is lots of interest in Vista, but much of the buzz is negative.
Not so secure, requires an account with local admin rights, and you'll get a prompt every time it runs; but it may be the most practical option if there are other permission issues.

There is lots of interest in Vista, but much of the buzz is negative. I'm willing to believe that it has a superb paper-like screen and long battery life; but I just don't want another device.
