Maybe a better way to formulate this is that they are
no more stupid than people of one's own country, or that
there's a fair chance they're just as stupid as oneself.
But then we know that intelligence is the stuff everyone
is convinced they've got by the bucketload, ample
evidence to the contrary notwithstanding :-)
