The problem with patents and copyright is that they are only using half the
equation of Our Founding Fathers. The purpose of these entitlements is to
encourage growth and development in new industries by rewarding the small
inventor a chance to secure new developments and let their business grow.

It was not intended to extent the right, in perpetuity of *corporations* to
gain a stranglehold on commonly used procedures and knowledge. But that is
now what it has become.

Evaluation of a patent award should recognize the potential of the assignee
to grow and develop an industry. Under a Bu$h administration, of course,
that will never happen, and instead, companies are allowed to amass these
'pike roads' and to force people to pay for ideas and technology that are
trivial or decades old and unlikely to foster new business growth.
