Broadcast Television moving from tape to Linux servers
IBM's Alex Salazer will give a business-centric talk about the
current impact of Linux on the Broadcast Television industry, and
what the future holds in terms of Linux adoption.
Television has traditionally been a tape based medium, for they are
the de-facto standard for archival, broadcast, and transfer. For
many reasons, it is estimated that Broadcast Television technology
is 5 years behind the current pace of technological adoption. Yet
thanks to Linux and Linux based solutions, the Television industry
is finally able to chuck out their tapes and rapidly replace them
with Linux servers.
Linux already has a growing share of usage on television set-top
devices, yet it is poised to play a pivotal role in the mass
redistribution, storage, and broadcast of content world wide. Media
organizations of all types and sizes will be enabled to centralize
countless hours of footage, and beam it around the world to your
television with the push of a simple button.
New York City is the largest television market in the world and
the second largest industry behind financial services. Join us to
learn how your skills are pertinent in NY's television broadcast
industry.
Swag (Give Away) - During the meeting... unusually terrific swag of
non-predetermined origin will be given out to all attendees at the
regular meeting for free as usual.
Stammtisch
After the meeting ... Join us around 8:30pm or so at TGI Friday's,
located at 677 Lexington Avenue and 56th Street, second floor.
Northeast corner.
