That's because I need to say precisely what I'm referring to so that
you don't make an incorrect assumption or get the drift wrong.

The rationale for the GPL is to ensure not only that free software
stays free, but also to help encourage the creation of new free
software. In order to satisfy *both* goals, the *entirety* of a
derivative work is required to be released under the GPL, not just
the originally GPL parts.
