   Just stick a statement in the front of the book stating the terms
   under which you license it.  You don't need to register anywhere:
   why would you think that?

Depends on the jurisidction, in the US and most other place you don't
need to register copyright.  In others you might.

   Given what you want to do I suggest that you consider a Creative
   Commons license.  See <http://creativecommons.org/license/>.

Many of the Creative Commons licenses are non-free documentation, and
non-free software licenses.  So one shouldn't recommend the whole
range.  A better license for a book would be the GNU Free
Documentation license.  See
