There's lots of money in browsers, via search engine placement, i.e. 
advertising.

Of course as I've pointed out previously, this isn't necessarily a model 
that can be usefully transfered to most other application categories, so 
there might not be any general lesson about the financial viability of 
zero-cost software here.
