    permission for the Miracle to play the song when it did.
    Implicit in that permission was a promise not to sue for
    copyright infringement-a promise that at least one court
    has found to be the essence of a nonexclusive license.

That's why the GPL carefully spells out all the requirements which
must be followed in order for permission to copy and distribute to
be granted, so that no one can argue that the rights holders have
given any other permission.
