Just a quick followup: The ‘p’ branch passes "make check" now:

This means if you have any long-standing issues w/ Guile 1.8.x
(or w/ Guile in general that manifest also in 1.8.x), you are
hereby invited to let your inner child put finger to keyboard
and submit issues / tests / bug reports / bug fixes.
