Well, I am pretty sure one could make "M-x ffap" to work, but that is
still pretty far from the usability hyperlinks offer, IMHO.

This is a joke, right? Or did you actually meant to say that Emacs
as a web browser has equivalent functionality to Firefox or Opera?

Only assuming user's emacs info files are actually there, IIUC.
