Hi!
While the system-side config is read-only in /gnu/store,
the user-side ~/.config/fontconfig does work for me.
According to ‘50-user.conf’, it can be:
~/.config/fontconfig/fonts.conf (file)
or
~/.config/fontconfig/conf.d (directory)
I have ‘~/.config/fontconfig/conf.d/00-all.conf’,
maybe you have ‘~/.config/fontconfig/zz-xxx.conf’?
