shadowfs is a filesystem server. A shadowfs contains 'merged'
filesystem _hierarchies_ - not only the first nodes as your shadow-dir
should do, if i understood you correctly.

Hrrm. Yes, it is probably easier. But it's not the solution we
want. So we should work on a real shadowfs.
