This is a FAQ, although as far as I know there isn't a good FAQ answer
list out there.
You want to use tags instead. The revision number should be regarded as
an opaque identifier for cvs only. Presumably you want to assign a
label (call it a revision number if you like) to your files so you can
get them back again. You do this via the cvs tag command (cvs --help
tag for help; http://www.cvshome.org/docs/manual/cvs_4.html#SEC48 for
details).
