Pserver/CVSROOT not being identified

Hello,

        I've been using CVS for a while, but strictly with local
filesystems.  I recently upgraded to 1.11 on Solaris and set up a cvs
pserver.

I'm getting some very weird behavior where it doesn't look like the pserver
parameter is being read from the CVSROOT environment variable.

Here's an example of what's going on:

BEGIN

address@hidden:~/work  ]  $ cvs -d
:pserver:address@hidden:/users/cvs/cvsroot co fault
cvs server: Updating www
cvs server: Updating www/etc
cvs server: Updating www/htdocs
cvs server: Updating www/htdocs/alarmviewer
cvs server: Updating www/htdocs/alarmviewer/javaviewer
cvs server: Updating www/htdocs/alarmviewer/webviewer
cvs server: Updating www/htdocs/avhelp

.....
address@hidden:~/work  ]  $ export
CVSROOT=:pserver:address@hidden:/users/cvs/cvsroot
address@hidden:~/work  ]  $ cvs co fault
cvs [checkout aborted]: the :server: access method is not supported by this
port of CVS
address@hidden:~/work  ]  $ cvs --version

Concurrent Versions System (CVS) 1.10 `Halibut' (client/server)
...

END

Shouldn't the command cvs co fault work the same with a -d and the CVSROOT
explicitly specified as when the CVSROOT is set as an environment variable?


Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.
