I'm trying to understand why this is an issue?

I have a respository that is chock full of unix scripts and dos batch
files.

I NEVER worry about keeping dos or unix file endings on the lines.  The
reason I never worry is because I never try to share a single sandbox
across two platforms.

Because I never worry, I can, with confidence, make changes to a script or
batch file on either platform and commit with no difficulties or worries.

Of course, I never share sandboxes between ANY two machines.  If I'm
working on Win98 and WinNT, two sandboxes, one for each machine.  If I'm
working on Linux and Solaris, two sandboxes, one for each machine.

Heck, if I'm working on two separate problems, I often have multiple
sandboxes on the SAME machine, so I don't mix/match on that level either!

Don't share your sandboxes, and there is never a need to worry about line
endings!
