Well, you could forbid write access to those directories to the
developers.

Look into backing out changes in the Cederqvist (manual).  You should be
able to back out the developer's erroneous import.  Alternatively, you
should be able to simply reimport the data.  If you don't have the
original just check out the last good import from the vendor branch and
import that.
