"M" indicates that the file was locally modified -- you would have
gotten a "U", "P", or "C" if it was out-of-date with respect to the
repository.  That implies that you already had 1.3, but had somehow
undone the 1.2 -> 1.3 changes.  The most likely way for that to have
happened is that you did an update while you had the file open in an
editor and then saved the file from the editor (perhaps when exiting),
overwritting the updated version with the old version.
