Either one should work.  My personal preference would be to download the
source and build it myself.

Your FTP client doesn't understand passive mode (at least not with that
command).

Assuming there's a long delay between those two messages (the 200 and
the 421), you're likely behind a firewall and need to use passive mode. 
If so, you need to figure out how to get your client to use passive mode
or get a different FTP client.  Alternatively, it may be that you need
to enable sending port commands (many FTP clients use the "sendport"
command for that).
