Meaning what, message is still read-only?  How are you editing the
readers and writers files?  Are you editing the actual files in the
repository or are you checking them out, editing them, and committing
them?  If the later, have you added them to checkoutlist so that they
get rebuilt on checkin?  Check the actual files in the repository to
make sure they say what you think they do.  If so, check them for
leading or trailing whitespace characters (like spaces or tabs) or
invisible control characters.
