Problem CVS hanging in Linux. (Output of cvs -t included)

I am using SuSE Linux 7.2.
CVS version is latest version from cvshome.org
Here the output of a cvs -t

It hangs right here and will not continue.

It looks like it is hanging on the server_register command.
What exactly is the server trying to do? Does anyone have a document
decribing what these commands mean?
