CVS through firewall

Hi. With Debian Linux on a 192 subnet behind a firewall I can access CVS, but only if I set my firewall to forward to a particular CVS project site. I want to be able to access more than one CVS project on SourceForge without tinkering with the firewall all the time. How do I do that? Should I be researching SOCKS, NAT, or a proxy server?

 

Related problem, my present configuration only allows checkouts, not logins.
