Thanks, I figured this out. It seems to be a problem (though infrequent enough that I couln't find the solution posted here). But there is a bug in the OpenSSH implementation of ssh2 which prevents non-interactive ssh sessions from terminating properly. Rather than try to fix ssh2 (apparently this has been a problem for at least 4 years...) I simply downloaded the latest version of ssh1 (OpenSSH_3.0.2p1) from openssh.org and it works without any problems whatsoever.

Bummer.

Hopefully someone will fix this for real someday!

If other commands executed via ssh also hang ('ssh host ls', etc) then I would
guess that it isn't a CVS issue.
