Branching and Tagging

Hi,
I'm wodering if I can set a tag on some sources that came from a branch. 
(I have branch 1.5.1 and i want to tag the files to 1.5.2).
I have the feeling that the tag will apply only to the main trunck. Can 
anyone agree / disagree, please ?
