RE: sharing cvs root?

They want to actually be in the repository?  No, that is a bad idea.  You
should explain to your boss the reason for a source code repository.

If that is the case, get them ViewCVS http://viewcvs.sourceforge.net/ and
CVSgraph (link is on viewcvs site).  They will get used to it.

In the beginning, the engineers here also wanted to be able to be in the
actual repository.  The argument I used was that they could always check out
the entire repository and see it that way.  Went over like a lead balloon.
However, that is asking for trouble and defeats the purpose of have the
repository - a safe place for the code.  Especially with sharp engineers,
they could screw up the repository and then you'd be S.O.L.  I gave them
ViewCVS and, more recently, CVSgraph.  

During the last big merge, the engineer who had been the biggest proponent
(and pain) of wanting to be in the actual repo, thanked me for getting
ViewCVS because he didn't know just how useful it was going to be.
