I've been wondering about that....  and I did a fair bit of research
before posting.  It's not documented to do that, but since when is
internal documentation the final word, esp. in a project this mature! :-)

I couldn't spot anything obvious in the code either, but I only skimmed
through it once and it's been a long while since I've been inside commit.c

In any case -- I maintain that the change control tool (i.e. commitinfo
programs in this case) should not introduce their own changes (in any
place the user hasn't explicitly asked for them, eg. for keyword
expansions).
