Okay, good deal.

Regarding disabling the history file: Is this disabled as long as I do not have a file named "history" in the CVSROOT directory?

If you have the history file enabled, it will grow arbitrarily large.
Other than that, I haven't seen unrestrained growth by default.
If, for example, you're logging checkins by writing a line to
a log file in editinfo, you need to watch that file.
