Please send only ASCII mail to this list.

Left to itself, which is what you should be doing, CVS will
produce revision numbers from 1.1 up, with the first "1" never
changing.  It will never produce a 2.1 without manual designation
of revision numbers.

You should not in general be designating your own revision numbers.
CVS uses them internally, and will not maintain them in any form that
is useful for other purposes.  Use them only as "magic cookie"-type
designations for individual changes.  Keep track of the revisions
that mean something (i.e., those in a particular release) with
tags.
