Is that because you have a service contract that HP uses to strong-arm
you into buying only brand-name parts? Generic disks are not that
expensive and I assume the HP, if it's anywhere near modern, uses either
standard SCSI or maybe FC interfaces.

I understand.... The basic hardware you need to probably even
out-perform the HP would likely only cost about $5,000. In comparison
to the NAS and HP box that should seem like chicken-feed! ;-)

Are you sure you want to share two highly disk-I/O-intensive
applications on the same server though? This "cost-saving" measure
might cost you more than real $$$$ in the long run.....

Well, HP is not known for their NFS, either client or server....
They're probably a lot stronger on the server side too, so as a client
host you'll be getting the short end of the stick.

Something in the middle, or rather closer to your end likely, is
trashing the X-face: header my mailer adds -- i.e. there's some
non-RFC-822 compliant program handling the message somewhere...

My posts to the list come back properly formed so it's not the MLM or
any MTA between me and it....
