While it does run server side there is a CVS folder that is created.  An
Entries file is created with information only about files being checked
in.  There are no timestamps, but everything else is there.  Also, the
version number is the old version number, which can be especially
confusing for the first checkin on a branch.  The Repository file is
created and the Tag file is created.  I plan on using it when we go into
a code freeze.  I will open a branch for bug fixes, only allow commits
on that branch and force a bug # in the comment that matches to a real,
open bug number.
