The password does seem correct (see the previous post from me about that),
the username does exist, and I believe I have the root option correct on
the server -

/etc/inetd.conf:

cvspserver      stream  tcp     nowait  root    /usr/local/bin/cvs cvs
--allow-root=/usr/local/cvsrepos pserver

# ls -Fla /usr/local/bin/cvs
