Greg has a good point.  The way in which you are trying to use CVS is
silly.

This observation is very relevant to the problems you are having, and
as such not beside the point at all.

You said that you were trying to fiddle with permissions on Attic
directories in order to prevent users from doing ``cvs rm''.

The rigth answer is that it's not necessary to do that because the
repository records everything, and makes it possible to go back in time
to the point when the file existed. No information is lost by ``cvs
rm''; rather, it works by recording new version information that
indicates that the file is removed.

It's important for CVS users to be able to remove and add files;
preventing them from doing either gets in the way of their work, and is
therefore counterproductive.

By the way, Greg *thinks* that something is silly, not *feels*. You and
I are not privileged with knowing what he feels.
