Space problem/server capacity problem, we are talking here about Oracle 
Databases with several GB of data and several thousand stored 
procedures/triggers.

One can always use the cvs locking/watch mechanism. It seems to be sufficient.

With a good locking mechanism (and what's in cvs seems to be good enough) it 
should be no problem.
