I agree. Stow rules! It is a fine example of treating problems with a
purelly "unix" philosply (don't develop milions of lines of buggy C
code for something that can be solved using a few scripts).

I totaly agree, though I would suggest putting these "anal" packages
in a different hierarchy altogether. Everything inside "/usr/local"
should be stow-managed. A good place for those would be under "/opt"
