It would allow modules to be retrieved correctly by branch/date pair or
tag.  Seems mighty useful to me, given that the ad hoc workaround of
adding version numbers to module names would no longer be necessary.

Kindly read what I said:  Add an RCS file identifier to the CVS/Entries
file.  That means:  Add a layer of indirection so that a single RCS file
can be mapped to its corresponding working copy, no matter where in the
workspace it happens to appear.
