That's quite unlikely, CVS should detect those kinds of problems and
report them if possible or crash if not, not corrupt files.  Your
working directory wouldn't happen to be on some kind of network file
system would it?  We've had lots of reports of network file system
interoperability bugs causing similar problems.  If not, I'd be inclined
to suspect a hardware problem.  If you can reproduce the problem on
another client machine, that would indicate a problem with the server;
if not, a problem with the client.
