Getting fatal signal 11 while merging |

We are trying to merge a branch back into the trunk and get the following error.
I have no idea where to begin to troubleshoot the problem. I would appreciate
any help from the gurus on this list.
Merging differences between 1.5 and 1.5.4.2.2.3 into Genders.java
C src/java/domain/org/familysearch/domainmodel/Group.java
R src/java/domain/org/familysearch/domainmodel/Groups.java
cvs: rcs.c:4114: RCS_checkout: Assertion `rev == ((void *)0) ||
(__ctype_b[(int) (((unsigned char) *rev))] & (unsigned short int) _ISdigit)'
failed.
Terminated with fatal signal 11
