Files disappeared without a trace

Hello,

I have a weird problem with my cvs installation (ver 1.11.1p1).  I noticed
this morning that an important directory was empty.  I quickly checked the
history (cvs history -a -x MAR -D "date of last build").  This showed no
entries beginning with R.  I then tried checkout with the build tag.  This
shows the directory with the files in it.  I am at a loss to figure out what
happened to those files.  I'd appreciate any help.
