That's because you should never, ever try to share a checked-out
directory between two different kinds of systems.  Always do the
checkout (or export) on the same kind of system as the one you want
to use the files on.

So this essentially means that it is not possible to keep a central location for a mixed-plattform developer group?

Note that once the "release" has been checked out it is stripped of the CVS directories and is only intended for reference, e.g. the headers will be included in other C programs. The "release" will never be modified nor checked in again.
