Release command doesn't delete my working copy

With WinCVS I checkout out my project, I edited the files and then
committed the files.

Then I ran the command:
cvs release -d

This was to erase the entire working copy with its subdirectories and files.

I get a message that the command was succesfully executed, but nothing
from my working copy has been erased.

Does anyone have a clue what I'm doing wrong?
