remote log information

I have a script which pulls out of CVS information on changes to a project
between two official builds.  To do this I am using cvs log with the -r
switch to interrogate CVS on individual file revisions.  In order to get
this to work, it appears I have to have the module checked out onto the PC
running the script.  Is there any way of getting the same information
without having to have the module checked out (i.e. by interrogating the
repository directly)?
